2016 Speaking Topics
Wonder at Who He Is – When was the last time you stood in awe of God’s character? After years nearly 20 years of following Christ, I found myself stuck in the daily mundane of marriage, motherhood, and general adulting. Join me as I dig into the story of Elijah and the character of our God. Let’s wonder at who He is together, and alongside one another, find awe and inspiration in the “daily mundane.” (**This topic fits well with the 2016/2017 MOPS theme: “Life has a way of draining the wonder out of us. We become just a little bit more cynical and a little more worn out, completely forgetting how to be astonished. Instead, wonder is wide-eyed. It is primal and unexpected, and it washes away any trace of stagnancy.”)
Darkness into Light: Pulling the Veil on Depression – Approximately 14.8 million American adults battle depression. I am one of them. Though I’m silly, sarcastic, jovial and optimistic, I have been battling depression for a decade. I share my personal depression story, God’s truth in the midst of depression, and how one might support a loved one who is in the midst of their own battle. (**This topic fits well with the 2016/2017 MOPS theme: “Starry Eyed means looking for the light even when darkness is enveloping.”)
How to Bloom Where You Are Planted – “Bloom where you are planted” can be an incredibly encouraging phrase in certain circumstances, but not so much in others. What if your life is falling apart? What if your circumstances feel like an arid desert? How are you supposed to “bloom?” Let’s see what God’s word says and find freedom and comfort in the ease of His standard.
Why Your Body Image Matters – Most of us live with a general, low-level dissatisfaction with our looks. We have a simmering discontent that remains in the back of our minds, that we think about throughout the day, that impacts how we feel about ourself and others and, ultimately, how we relate to God. Let’s discuss how to find freedom from the constant preoccupation with our looks, and live in gratitude and acceptance for the body God has given us.
Friends Help Friends Stay Happily Married – How do you and your friends talk about your husbands when you are together? How might that be contributing to marital connectedness or strife? How can you pray for your friend’s marriage BEFORE it’s in trouble? Discover simple, yet effective ways to support your friends in marriage!
The Art of Seeking and Accepting Help from Others – For many women, seeking and accepting help is a huge struggle. They feel guilty, embarrassed, or unworthy of asking for help when they need it. But God has called us to love “one another.” A reciprocal call. To both give and receive help. Let’s delve into God’s truth and find greater connection as a community of believers that both accepts and doles out help in turn.
